Disability and Patient Advocacy – California Only
We provide guidance to individuals navigating systems that weren’t built with them in mind.
Individual and family advocacy: Support with IEPs, healthcare access, and benefit navigation
Support services navigation: Guidance on income and asset limits, appeals, and functional impact letters to protect independence without losing critical supports
Empowerment coaching: Helping people build self-advocacy skills while staying grounded in their rights and goals
Consulting and Training
We equip professionals and organizations with the tools to serve individuals with disabilities more effectively.
Inclusive practice workshops: Training for educators, healthcare providers, and social workers on dismantling hidden barriers
Enforced poverty awareness: Sessions that unpack how policies force scarcity and what organizations can do to mitigate harm
Systems change consulting: Partnering with nonprofits and advocacy groups to align their work with disability justice and economic equity
Strategic Communications
We reshape the stories being told about disability, poverty, and access.
Messaging audits: Ensuring that organizational language reflects dignity and doesn’t reinforce stigma
Storytelling campaigns: Elevating lived experience to highlight how enforced poverty impacts real lives
Policy communications: Creating reports, toolkits, and campaigns that push for reform on issues like SSI/SSDI limits, marriage penalties, and benefit cliffs
Therapy Sessions
Therapy services are part of the long-term vision for Beyond The Box Advocacy, but we’re not there yet. Lilly is currently in graduate school working toward licensure. In the meantime, however, we’re doing the advocacy and systems change work now to lay the foundation for a therapy practice centering disability and mental health.
